Badilisha is an association and community center on Rusinga Island, Homabay, Kenya. The center works with local groups and communities to promote agroforestry and permaculture, combat food insecurity and protect important ecosystem goods and services. It features

  • a demonstration farm with a small tree nursery
  • a library
  • permaculture and agroforestry trainings
  • capacity building for farmers associations
  • tree planting actions
  • a breakfast program for children

Furthermore the team leads the vanguard to restore and conserve Ligongo Hill. Badilishas activities include earthworks and soil erosion control structures as well as the reintroduction of indigenous tree and grass species.

Badilisha works to ensure a sustainable and continuous supply with everyday natural resources like firewood and water. In the future Badilisha wants to further strengthen and expand its restoration and protection work, livelihood support and clean energies to all communities of Rusinga Island.
