Badilisha

Badilisha Ecovillage is a community center on Rusinga Island, Homabay, Kenya. They work with local groups and communities to promote agroforestry and permaculture design, combat food insecurity and protect important ecosystem while improving access to natural goods and services. Their center features:

  • a demonstration farm with a small tree nursery
  • a library
  • permaculture and agroforestry trainings
  • capacity building for farmers associations
  • tree-planting actions
  • a breakfast program for children

In addition, their team leads the vanguard to restore and conserve Ligongo Hill. Badilisha’s ecological engagement includes earthworks and soil erosion, control structures as well as the reintroduction native flora, including endemic species of tree and grass.

Badilisha also works to ensure a sustainable and continuous supply with everyday natural resources such as firewood and clean water. Their future vision is to further strengthen and expand its restoration and protection work, support local livelihood/employment and continue working to provide clean energies to all communities of Rusinga Island.
